Muggle Stories: Remus Lupin, the Pet Rabbit

“I was introduce to the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter by my younger sister in 1998. She was finishing up elementary school, while I was in middle school. I thought it must be a silly children’s book if she liked it, but my curiosity got the best of me and I began to read the Sorcerer’s Stone. It immediately drew me in. I couldn’t deny it’s greatness!

From then on, my sister and I would fight to take turns reading the subsequent books as they came out. Even my mom got in on the action by the time the 4th book was released. I was so excited to read the dramatic conclusion (although sad that such a good series had to come to an end) that I finished the Deathly Hallows within a 12 hour period (I’m a fast reader).

The day of my high school graduation was when the 3rd HP movie was released. A bunch of friends of mine went to see it that day. It’s interesting seeing the cinematic interpretation of the books. I also made sure to go to the Harry Potter exhibit while it was at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry this summer.

I am not crazy enough to name my children for Harry Potter characters; I would never be that cruel, just my pet rabbit. He has been dubbed Remus Lupin.”

  1. This is hilarious, since James Potter would always refer to Remus’s lycanthropy as his “furry little problem,” and a lot of people thought he had a crazy rabbit or something. Very clever!

  2. I named a pet rabbit of mine Hermione, though after the HP character or not, I’m not absolutely sure. I just like the name Hermione…Anyway, I agree with Amanda. Naming a rabbit Remus Lupin is very clever!

  3. What is of special interest to me is how often people make assumptions about how they would enjoy a book based on age… But I do the same thing: I assume that children’s books will be enjoyable and those written for a more mature audience will be “stuffy.”
