How Many Times Have You Seen Deathly Hallows?

How many times have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?

My plan was to see the film once. Circumstances that were beyond my control (in the form of a spontaneously combusting projector) means I actually saw it twice. The question now being, do I see it again?

The opportunity has come up. My friend who was with me at the fateful failed midnight showing would like to see the whole thing through, ending intact. Another friend who was always a fan of the books but hasn’t made it out for this film yet has expressed interest. Moreover, my sister is going back sometime this weekend and has offered it up as an entertaining night. Even my friend I saw tonight suggested it as a possibility when we were looking at what was out in the theaters.

How many times is too many times to see Deathly Hallows? At what point does it go from completely acceptable to a bit obsessive?

I’m not one to shy away from seeing a good film twice in the theaters. Recently, I caught Avatar and Inglourious Basterds twice. But three times? Four times? For a movie that long?

Here’s what I’m hoping: I want theaters to re-release Part One right before Part Two hits the big screen. Right now, I remember everything about the film, but come July I’m going to be a bit fuzzy. That’s when seeing the film again will be useful.

So how about you? How many times have you seen the film so far?

  1. I’ve seen it twice and planning on going again this weekend with a friend who hasn’t seen it, so 3!

  2. 3: midnight showing, then twice with some Muggles. On the third time I managed not to cry at Dobby’s death. Still beautiful.

  3. Twice so far, and planning to go again =) I think they probably will re-release 1 – they did it with Twilight.

  4. Two, and that will be it unless I get invited to see it again. If I do get invited, I will go though. I don’t think you can see it too many times, especially if it’s happening as a result of invitations from friends who haven’t seen it yet.

  5. Just once..It’s an amazing movie ever..Hope I can find time to watch it over and over again like you did guys.

  6. I’ve seen it twice, and I’m contemplating seeing it again. Can’t wait for the DVD, so I can watch it whenever I want!

  7. three times :) twice on opening weekend, once this week. And I may see it again tomorrow, but my friend is as of yet undecided. :D

  8. Only once, but I have to admit, I’m hankering….

  9. Twice so far and planning to see again tomorrow. If I can figure out how to sneak back for a fourth viewing, I will, but the cost of the ticket increases each time. Not the dollar amount, but the crap I have to put up with from my muggle husband!

  10. I saw it twice: opening night at midnight, then again on Wednesday with my dad and sister who hadn’t seen it yet. To be fair, J and I also didn’t pay for the first one…someone paid for our tickets to pay us back for booze.

    • That reminds me: the friend I saw Half-Blood Prince with, who snuck in Miller High Lifes for us and started this whole Harry Potter reading adventure? She definitely brought cranberry and vodka to Deathly Hallows. Have to keep the tradition alive.

  11. I’ve seen it 3 times (once in IMAX, twice in normal theaters) and noticed new things each time. If someone new asked me to go, I’d probably go again.

  12. There’s supposed to be an “Equus” poster hanging in the cafe. Gotta look for that next time!

  13. I saw it twice: at the midnight showing and another time. But, if the opportunity arose, I would see it again.

    • I think you could convince me to see it a third time if it was on IMAX, if only to see if it really makes a difference. Generally speaking, I avoid IMAX for anything that doesn’t involve space or deep sea exploration or something Discovery Channel-esque. It’s too disorienting for actual films. But I’d give it a go.

      • I find IMAX super disorienting during action sequences where there’s a lot of intercutting, like when they’re being chased through the forest by the snatchers. Just too much, too fast for my little eyeballs to take in. The best is a big but non-IMAX screen in a place with great sound, IMHO.

  14. what happened to your younger sister who was reading the books? i really enjoyed reading your interviews about the books with her! Oh and to answer your question: Once but i really want to go again!

  15. My husband and I and probably one daughter are planning to see it for the first time on Friday, if all goes well. The other daughter who lives with us has already seen it with her boyfriend.

I can’t imagine how many times you could see it with friends before it would brand you as being obsessive; but if you always went alone, I am sure you would cross the line much sooner.

    I also saw Avatar twice.

    • Very good point!

I think I’ve capped out at two (though the free tickets I have from the failed midnight screening ARE burning a whole in my pocket). I’ll probably save those for Part II and if I catch Part I again, it will be sometime in July for a refresher.

    • It was great to have my son and two of my daughters come with us, too.

  16. Am proud to say, I’ve watched it 8 times already, and i don’t see myself stopping in the near future…

  17. Once, so far, on opening night. My friend and I (she’s already gone twice but the second time was with people who were not um..super fans, so she said it wasn’t quite the same) are planning to see it again – probably next week. That’ll probably be all until it comes out on DVD or is re-released.

  18. I finally got to see it for the first time last Friday. I loved it! It was the 1:20 pm showing and there were only two people in the theater when we arrived 15 minutes early. Other people came and made a reasonably good crowd for a mid-day showing on a work day after the first week in theaters.
